Canterbury Mountain Bike Club News
Summer’s here and we’re happy to welcome the longer evenings and warmer weather – it means more riding of course! We’ve had a pretty weird year, to say the least, but we’ve managed to keep the stoke going with some great club rides (when permitted) and some awesome work giving back to our favourite tracks. We have a brand new committee and we’re excited to see what the new year brings – hit us up if you have any suggestions or requests for next year.
See you out there!
Track Maintenance
Our winter track maintenance events have been a success again this year, in conjunction with Nick Singleton, the CCC Port Hills Ranger. Steve Riefe has done a superb job organising the 4 events where volunteers carried out track improvement tasks on parts of Bowenvale Downhill, Greenwoods, Anaconda, and Witch Hill.
As usual, the final event for the season finished with a BBQ at the Rangers hut to reward the effort shown by the volunteers. Steve’s event posts were highly entertaining and hopefully helped encourage some of you to step up and get involved. Volunteer numbers were typically 10 – 14 per event and peaked with a record turnout of 26 to help with Bowenvale DH. Thank you so much to those of you that volunteered your time to keep our tracks maintained and especially to those who attended multiple events. A massive thanks to Steve for organising these events!
Reefton Relics Trip
We had a great turnout for the ‘Reefton Relics’ Labour Weekend trip, with 13 riders fronting for the weekend.
Day 1 was the Big River ride, where we split into 2 groups – one for the full 80km Big River/Waiuta loop and the other doing a 50km ‘In and Out’ avoiding the more technical Waiuta track. Day 2 was spent riding Murray’s Creek loop, while much shorter, still has some good climbs and challenges along the way.
Thanks to all the riders who came and brought their positive attitudes and banter, which is what makes these trips great.
